User RESEARCH

The purpose of user research was to discover what users are interested in and their main goals while using the Peak Seek app. Users are looking for easy and simple design at a low cost. Users are also interested in learning topics that they are struggling with and need more attention to.

summary

I interviewed three full-time workers from New York, aged 22-28, to gain insight into their interests and what triggers them to start a new hobby. I decided which expertise field to focus on and got ideas for features, including a classroom platform. Two interviewees felt they didn’t need the app, as they could access free networking content on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Goals

  1. What are people’s interests?
  2. How do people do research online?
  3. What type of field users are interested in?
  4. What kind of features do users want to see?

insights

  • Target Experts to be more professors and teachers (so they can earn extra when they are on summer/winter breaks)
  • Target audiences are >30 high school and college students
  • When Experts are hired, they must show their credentials

Problem Statement

Everyone needs a way to learn and consult with a specific area of field of Experts. Sometimes users are unsure about where to start when they wish to change their job path or expand their expertise.

Solution

A platform where users can connect and learn from qualified Experts in their specific fields.

Competitors

The Intro app connects you to experts on video calls about decorating, fashion, makeup, and wellness. The ProTalk app offers anonymous connections with experts on flexible timing. The Intro app is highly rated with over 800 users giving it a perfect score on the Apple store, while ProTalk app has a 3.1 out of 5 rating based on 12 reviews on the Google Play store.

con

The session often carries a significant cost, with experts charging upwards of $500 for just 15 minutes. Moreover, there's a need for broader inclusion across fields like healthcare and engineering in these sessions.

con

The design lacks sophistication, with overly simplistic layouts, and the application suffers from numerous glitches, leading to difficulties for some users in completing the sign-up process.
